Broiling in Mississippi

heat-exhaustion

My friend Jill just called me from Wisconsin where she’s visiting her family and attending her 30th class reunion.

Get this.  They are having a barbeque – outside – right here in the middle of summer!

I commented that I couldn’t imagine having my class reunion outside (it’s next weekend in West Point).  We could have a barbeque without even using a grill.

I’ve ranted before about Jiggly Wiggly.  Today was the final straw.  They probably won’t even let me come back.  Good.

fig ripes

I’m not really crazy about figs, but my friend has a huge fig tree in his back yard and he invited Marie and Judy and me to come over and do some pickin’ after mass tomorrow.

Sir Walter Scott wrote about the tangled webs we weave when we begin to deceive. Just look at the endless parade of politicians and famous sports figures who have gotten tangled up in their lies. But research shows that lies affect more than our reputation — they can even affect our health and longevity.

Go ahead and have a good cry

sobbingmore                                                                                                                   One of my all time favorite movies is “Something’s Gotta Give” with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

I especially love the part when Diane’s character is getting over being dumped by Jack. She sobs uncontrollably at the drop of a hat, letting go with every emotional gun she ever possessed.
