Perfect day for a garden party
My neighbor, Charlie, above right is a wonderful gardener and an even better cook. Today he decided to throw a garden party in honor of a break in the cold weather.
Thankfully, the clouds parted just before noon and the sun appeared. It’s a good thing his wife Ellen is out of town because we made a huge mess in his historic home – one of the oldest in Starkville.
He cooked up a batch of his famous Brunswick Stew and cornbread and some of the ladies supplied dessert.
We wandered around his vast garden for hours and learned how to graft pear trees, then went inside for lunch. The creeping phlox and plum trees burst into bloom practically as we passed them by.
I could see the beginning of a new coeducational garden club. It’s always nice to add a few men to the mix. It gave us a new perspective.
