Kate Roberts sent me a note about a new seasoning she has discovered called “Slap Yo Mama.”
It is made in Ville Platte, Louisiana, the heart and soul of Cajun Country, so I know it must be good.
I’m dying to try it – but wish they had called it “Whack Yo Dawter” or something less indendiary toward mothers everywhere.
In 1956, Wilda Marie Fontenot gave birth to the award winning "SLAP YA
MAMA" seasoning blend. Every time she uses it, she receives a loving slap on the back and a kiss on the cheek thanking her for another great Cajun dish.
The website says that Kroger carries it. I’m calling my local manager today to request that he stock up.
According to the store locator on YSM’s website, our local Food Giant Store sells it. Hope this helps – I enjoyed your website this morning – Thanks!
There’s a Giant in Columbus – I will check. Thanks Vinita!
Emily, I just picked up some Slap Ya Mama in Tallulah, La. If you can’t find some locally, I will send you some. Haven’t even tried it yet. It got my interest when looking through some recipes at the Deep South Dish web page. Slap Ya Mama is a common ingrediant in many of their recipies. On the container it says recommended for all dishes from popcorn to seafood, breakfast to late night snacks, gourmet foods to french fries.

I told my Kroger man I needed to get some and he said he would go to work on it. If he isn’t successful I will ask you to send me some. Thanks much.
I just saw it at my local Wal Mart. Try there if you haven’t already
