Bar code savvy

I’ve been attempting to purchase good ole ‘Made in the USA” products for a long time now.  Many products no longer show where they were made, only where the distributor is located.

I received an e-mail today which appears to have some validity.  I checked many items in my pantry and found most carrythe “Made in America” Bar Codes (Zero will be the first number according to this report).

Here’s the rest of the story according to my e-mail:

“The whole world is afraid of China-made or Japan made products.

If the first 3 digits of the barcode are 690, 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN  CHINA.”

471 is Made in  Taiwan .
This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public.

Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products “MADE IN CHINA”, so they don’t show from which country it is made.   However, you may now refer to the barcode -remember if the first 3 digits are:
690-692 then it is MADE IN  CHINA
00 – 09
30 – 37
40 – 44 GERMANY
471 …  Taiwan
50 UK

BUY USA & CANADIAN MADE by watching for “0” at the beginning of the number.  I checked with Snopes and it says USA codes can go up to 13.  If anyone has any more information on this, I would appreciate hearing it.

I was so relieved to find my puppy food (canned) carries the zero in front of the code,, along with my Peter Pan Peanut Butter.  Yet, a jar of cinnamon clearly states “Made in USA” but the bar code began with a 6 – which indicates China….confusing.
