Early Light: Be late for something today

Today is Friday, September 5, 2008. This is the 249th day of the year with 117 remaining. If the next 117 days go as fast as the last 100 plus, you’d better be looking for something to wear on New Year’s Eve!

Today is “National Be Late For Something Day” and it’s a great day to be a procrastinator. If you are among the millions of people who never seem to be able to stay on schedule and like to lollygag around, then you will certainly enjoy today. This has never been a problem for me. In fact, I’m neurotically punctual.

Being late for something is a common occurrence for most people. It’s caused by a whole host of reasons. Some are intentional, some are not. Fall behind schedule early in the day today, and you will be late for everything that follows.

Doctors and lawyers are notoriously late for something….their appointment with you! I have a friend who owns a restaurant. He was infuriated by his physician who came in for dinner one evening and was made to wait for 49 minutes – the exact amount of time the restaurateur had to wait on his doctor for his last appointment!

But enjoy lagging behind schedule while you can. Tomorrow is “Fight Procrastination Day.”
