Food to make you woozy

Every year I’m amazed by the new developments in the category of bizarre fair food – i.e. the nouveau junk offerings at festivals and  state fairs.

Spaghetti and meatballs on a stick

Last year it was spaghetti and meatballs on a stick, and this year someone has figured out how to fry butter and serve it on a stick (pictured in lead photo).   It turned up at the Iowa State fair recently.

They took a stick of butter, put it on a stick, dipped it in a cinnamon batter, and deep fried it. But it’s not over: Then, just for the heck of it, they drizzled more butter on top. It looks a little like a corn dog.

The fryer melts most of the butter, so it just makes the batter EXTREMELY buttery. It sells for $4.

I’m thinking some Democrat came up with the dish to kill off the Republicans who were holding a widely publicized straw poll during the event.

  1. Thanks for the photo! I have asked every funnel cake vendor I’ve seen between here and North Carolina about the fried butter, and nobody has had it. I expected it to be just a little pat, not a whole stick – wow! Sounds like $4 well spent to me…

  2. Your next best chance is Prairie Arts Festival? Carry a Reese’s in your purse, just in case, and get the funnel cake truck to fry it for you if its’ not already “in stock”!
