Mayor Dan Camp, center, and Melissa Mixon of Mississippi State University, at his left, joined organizers of the “Everything Garden Expo” tonight for the official ribbon cutting.
Vendors spent the day setting up their booths and I was amazed at the lack of duplication. Each vendor has something unique for your garden. I stood by one booth and literally salivated – it featured a running brook surrounded by foliage plants (not a bloomer in the bunch) and the color was spectacular.
The vendors were treated to a party following set-up, featuring old tyme tunes of the Boardtown Boys featuring Dr. Rob Leach at right (my neighbor) who has been hiding his vast talents. Very blue grass. Very perfect for the venue at the Mississippi Horse Park.
Their rendition of “I’ll Fly Away” brought tears to my eyes because it was my grandmother’s favorite song.
Below you get a feel for the wonderful arena which was only half full at noon. By 4 p.m. all but two or three booths had been transformed into lush showcases for plants and garden features.
There are a total of 60 booths in the show with two or three large equipment companies having to show their wares outside. The show is open 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Realizing many of you are too far away to join us, be assured I’m attending every seminar and taking copious notes which I will pass along.
