William arrived from Nashville yesterday with a big bag of Ghost Peppers he grew on his front porch. The technical name is Bhut Jolochia and they are the hottest chile in the world. I believe they are what are used to make pepper spray!
They measure over one million on the Scoville scale as compared with the habanaro, which is a measley 150K. This pepper isn’t messing around.
I asked him why he grew something so deadly. He said it made him feel good, the way four deadbolts and a weapon might make someone feel better when living in a deadly neighborhood.
I’m thinking of cooking some up this afternoon, but first I must call the Sheriff to see if he’ll loan me a Hasmet suit. If so we are making Nuclear Ghost Pepper Cracker Bombs
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 packet Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Mix
1 tsp. Ground Ghost peppers
1 tsp. granulated garlic or onion
1/2 tsp. Lemon Pepper seasoning.
5 cups oyster crackers
~ In a large bowl stir together oil, Ranch Dressing Mix, Bhut Jolokia Pepper, Garlic/Onion, and Lemon Pepper/Garlic Pepper.
~ Add oyster crackers to bowl and toss to coat.
And…..just where do we get the ghost peppers now that we’ve left town???
I think you have to find someone who has mail ordered the seeds. I’m saving all mine so I can send you some if you’re interested – they didn’t seem so terribly hot though the nuclear cracker bombs were pretty firey.
I would love to try one of Williams Ghost peppers. If a tiny nibble of the pepper makes me hiccup they are hot. That has been my gauge for years.
