Okay, so Mississippi State couldn’t pull it off in the basketball playoffs. I was very depressed, but I had a concession prize in store.
Temperatures hit 75 today and my green house plants were beginning to roast, so with two minutes left in the game, and no stomach to watch the loss, I went out back and began to drag some plants from my greenhouse.
I know we’ll have another cool spell around Easter, but I can always move them back inside. I was amazed at what I found. The lettuce seeds I’d thrown in a pepper pot had germinated and the cilantro was already giving out that heady fragrance.
BUT THE BIG PAYOFF – the orchid my son, William, send me for Mother’s Day in 2006 was blooming! It was blooming when he sent it and I thought it looked “pot bound” so I repotted it. Nelle Elam, my orchid friend, said that was the worst thing I could have done. Apparently, orchids like to be pot bound.
So, against my grain, I was patient. I just kept watering it, loving it, and let it get so pot bound it was ready to explode. And that it did!
Today!@ It is blooming – two huge four-inch blooms. Not open yet. But I’ll show you when they do. Ah, life is good.
