There are a few things in life that are worth the effort required for the benefits derived – true love and homegrown tomatuhs (Southern spelling) are the first to come to mind. For further explanation and to get in the proper mood, check out Guy Clark’s little tune called “Homegrown Tomatuhs.” If you “google” him you can hear it on line.
I totally agree with Guy Clark. What this country needs is a homegrown tomatuh plant in every yard. I’m sure this would be a kinder, gentler world.
My taste buds are gearing up right now for that unbeatable duo -homemade pimento cheese slathered on a piece of plain white bread (hold the sprouts and seven grains – this has got to be white bread which you can still buy for under $2 a loaf) and a layer of fresh sliced homegrown tomatuhs. Pure heaven. A few slices of bacon will take it over the top. Lettuce – I can take or leave.
Just like Guy, “Ain’t nothin’ in the world that I like better than bacon & lettuce & homegrown tomatuhs. Eat ‘em with beans, pinto or navy; Put ‘em on the side put ‘em in the middle. Put a homegrown tomatuh on a hotcake griddle. If I’s to change this life I lead I’d be Johnny Tomato Seed. When I die don’t bury me in a box in a cemetery -out in the garden would be much better. I could be pushin’ up homegrown tomatuhs.”
Amen to that, Brother Guy!
