I believe that decorating for Christmas helps set the stage for the most wonderful time of the year.
My role models are Cecelia and Jack Cook who live right around the corner from me. Their place is a beauty to behold.
They spend weeks preparing for the Holiday season and it always brings a smile to my face when I pass their home – which is several times a day!
The vintage Cook home is beautiful throughout the year, but at Christmas it is a beacon in the night. The inside of the home is even more fabulous than the exterior when Cecelia applies her distinctive holiday touches.
Speaking of Christmas decorations, we had the pleasure of visiting the newly refurbished Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans last weekend. If you’re planning to be in the city, don’t miss this. “Spectacular”is too weak a word to describe the beautiful old hotel which has been purchased by the Waldorf Astoria folks and returned to its splendor of the 40s and 50s.
For now, we’re off to Nashville for Christmas with my son William. He has reserved the penthouse suite in his hotel for my family – a fireplace and jacuzzi, the works. Best of all, I’m not doing the cooking!
Ah, do you think that was the point of this entire exercise? “Yeah, let’s keep her out of the kitchen and have some good food for a change.”
For more than 30 years I’ve been doing all the holiday meals. What will I do with myself? Will I feel useless and inept? Probably.
But I think I can get into this.
The older I get, the more I treasure this time of the year. My wish for each of you is a happy, safe and memorable Christmas, filled with love and good times.
