Have we got a deal for you. My friend Carol Moss Reed asked me to help get the word out about the auction and barbeque dinner at the First United Methodist Church beginning Saturday at 3 p.m.
FUMC is holding a silent auction, live auction and barbecue plate dinner on Saturday, March 31. This event will benefit three mission trips that members of the church will be taking in the next few months.
The event will open with a silent auction featuring some really special items including an original painting by Betty Jane Chatham, a brand new guitar, a week’s stay at a beach condo, a fishing excursion at a local camp house including a dinner cookout, a beautiful handmade table runner and several silk screens.
There will be gift certificates for restaurants and services, and one church member will come to your home with his chain saw and do clean-up work. (I could sure use that!)
All funds raised will be used for three separate mission trips which church members will soon be making, One is to Alaska which Carol said is the most “unchurched” state in the union. I didn’t know that.
Youth in the church will be making a trip to Costa Rica to work with the Rice and Beans Ministry and a third group will be going to Baldwin, La. to work on United Methodist Committee on Relief.
Following the silent auction the barbeque dinner will be served at 5:30 and the live auction will take place around 6:30 in the Family Life Center.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children. Call the church office to make reservations (323-5722.) Carol said this event isn’t just for church members and she issued an invitation to everyone to join in the fun.
