It may seem a bit premature to begin thinking about spring planting, but I want you to be the first to know that we’re cooking up a major regional event for the campus at Mississippi State University in the spring.
Save the dates of March 6-8, 2009 when the Starkville Area Arts Council presents “Everything Garden Expo.” There will be an exhibit hall full of vendors with everything from exotic plants to garden art. Seminars and short courses will be offered by garden gurus Felder Rushing, Garden Mama Nellie Neal, and day lily expert Milo Burnham.
“This is a first for north Mississippi and what could be a more logical place to hold it – at the state’s land grant institution which bosts one of the best horticulture and landscape architect programs in the U. S.?” said Jane Loveless who is co-chair for the event.
The event will be staged at the Mississippi Horse Park. Sponsors include Mississippi State University, MSU’s Extension Service, the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
Call Imogene Triplett at 662-323-0046 for more information.

Felder Rushing. left, is noted for his garden antics. Last summer he toured the state in his aging pick-up truck which had been planted as a traveling garden. He could reach back and pick a few cherry tomatoes to snack on while he traveled around the state. He is the author of 14 garden books.
