Marie and I attended a function yesterday which we never expected or wanted to contemplate – it was a funeral mass for one of our best friends and the nicest man in Mississippi – I’m serious.
David Evers was a Belzoni native who retired as an executive with Exxon Oil Company and returned to his beloved Mississippi State community to live out his Golden Years. They ended way too early for those of us who loved him and Sunday mornings will never be the same.
I’m not sure how Marie and I got to be such good friends with David – he kind of adopted us when we joined St. Joseph Catholic Church. Since I was a reformed Baptist/Presbyterian/Methodist – you name it, I’ve been it. We connected because he was also a former protestant.
We had the pleasure of attending the 50th anniversary party he threw for his beautiful wife, Kay, at the Hunter Henry Center on Campus. It was a first class affair with a fabulous 50s band. He and Kay didn’t miss a dance.
Who could imagine that a year later he would succumb to a septic infection.
Thank you David for being a prince of a man who was a friend to all. Marie and I are among thousands of people who will miss you and think of you often.
