Scam, bam, thank you m’am

My bank, BankFirst in Starkville, notified me this morning that there is a text message scam circulating in our area. It’s probably happening in yours as well.

Apparently some bank customers have received text messages stating that their debit card has been deactivated.

They are instructed to call a particular number to reactivate their card. No legitimate bank will initiate contact with customers that requires them to supply personal information for verification purposes.

Just another good reason not to text!

In another scam, people are receiving fraudulent automated messages  stating their ATM or debit card has been compromised. The automated message then instructs the caller to enter their card number to reactivate the card.

That’s a no-no, and a good way to get your identity stolen.  Contact your bank immediately.
