The weather outside is frightful

But the fire is so delightful.

Oh man.  I haven’t been this excited since I was named runner up in the bop contest at Mary Howard Ready’s dance studio in 6th grade.

I’d been sitting on my porch waiting for the promised snow.  The weather man said it should begin at noon and deliver us 5-8 inches.  At 1:30 I gave up and went to take a nap.  When I woke up the most beautiful snow I’ve ever seen was falling by the buckets.

And the world got very quiet. And something magical occurred.  Everything was so beautiful – even my ragged, untidy garden.

Snow is such an anomaly for us in the Deep South.  And this one is so fluffy and white.  What a great way to restart the New Year.  Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Then, like a curse, the snow turned to sleet.  Oh gee.  This is not what  I dreamed of.  For a brief moment I thought of running to the grocery store.  What for?  I’ve got a crock pot bubbling with chili and enough toilet paper to last for the rest of the month.  What else would a girl need?

  1. We’re getting the snow now – big flakes, and covering the ground.
George and I just saw a rabbit on our back patio, looking at the snow–wonder what it was thinking?! The weatherman was right. I love how it changes everything! We’re also stocked up on toilet paper. Don’t need a thing.
P.S. George remembers Mary Howard Ready’s dance studio, too!

  2. I guess if you’ve got toilet paper, you are good to go! Ha. Tell George I remember stepping on his shoes at dance class in first grade. Enjoy the snow show, we got about three inches. Beautiful and not a soul has passed my house this morning. It’s like the world went on hold. We need more days like this.

  3. It’s beautiful in Atlanta, too. We have about 4 inches in Norcross which is just outside the northeastern side of I-285. Road conditions are terrible and everything in the Atlanta metro area is closed (including the malls). The neighborhood children are sledding on the hill leading down to the cul-de-sac. They are having so much fun and we are enjoying watching them from our windows!
