Christmas in July!

"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire …" What? I suppose it’s hot enough for anyone to roast chestnuts on any street in Mississippi  right now.

I’ve contracted a bad case of the Christmas spirit and who wouldn’t?The Hallmark channel ran Christmas movies all weekend and my friend, Susan, told me the perfect accompaniment would be a big bowl of Christmas in July ice cream.

Oh my gosh.  Have y’all seen this latest offering by the wonderful Blue Bell folks?  How perfect for steamy Southern summers! Christmas Cookies Ice Cream combines your favorite holiday cookies — chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and sugar — in a tasty sugar cookie ice cream with red candy cane-shaped sprinkles and a green icing swirl throughout.

I’ve been humming jingle bells and today I’m going Christmas shopping. Why wait until Black Friday in November to shop ’til you drop? Shop while it’s hot! You will be in the coolest places around and can browse in comfort for hours, compliments of the department store’s air conditioning. And you can shop without all the pushing and shoving. Plus, you might even get a front-row parking space.

Christmas in July is just so practical.  And remember, Christmas is only five months away.

  1. …and how I love Christmas!!! Like a child again. Each year, once the tree is up, I start planning how I want to do it next year. Doing an Oriental one with soft gold tissue cloth garlands, Oriental lantern lights, tiny white lights and have been on eBay and bought 80 Oriental dolls of various sizes. A friend gave me a box full of lovely Oriental ornaments and I already had a good assortment. Can’t wait to see it this year.

  2. Well shucks Mike. When will you be getting your Santa suit out of mothballs? Take heart, Christmas will be here before you know it.
