A broccoli and cauliflower tree are a fun way to get them to eat their veges.
I’m always hunting for new and innovative ideas for Christmas food and decorations. Several years ago, I began packing away the Christmas issues of my favorite magazines by stashing them in the bottom of my plastic Christmas decoration boxes.
Voila. Every year after I remove the stuff, there are wonderful magazines from which to steal ideas. Each magazine is like a brand new issue and they’re not laying about creating more clutter during the rest of the year.
I found the broccoli tree idea in an old issue of Country Home. The star at the top contains a dipping sauce created from mayo, sour cream and mustard. I blanched my veges lightly so they retained their color and sprinkled it liberally with lemon juice and a little EVOO.
My next tip, I dreamed up on my own out of necessity. I needed to wrap a present and didn’t have time to go to the store for gift tags. Simply cut out the Christmasy elements and create your own gift tags. Punch a hole in the top and attach it to the gift with a ribbon. Nifty, huh. I’m not sure how Heard and J. J. Murphy feel about my desecration of their beautiful Christmas card, but I hope they will forgive! I’m saving trees here!
