The Deluded Diva

Halloween treats for deluded divas who can’t cook (or simply don’t want to)

witches hats

Okay, Halloween is just around the corner and it’s time to do some marathon baking. Right?

Let me give you a sneak peak at my no bake “home-made cookies” which my book club loved. (At least they said they did, but sometimes they lie when my feelings are at risk.) Seriously, these are a wonderfully easy way to entertain. You must try them out on your children or grandchildren – even the most dour of husbands will be delighted. And best of all, you can let them “bake” them for you! You can sit back with a good book and give instructions from your easy chair if you so desire.

They will think you’re a fabulous cook and you will have nary a dish to wash with the hats, and only one dish is required by the Casper cookies which follow. It will require a trip to the store, however.

Witches Hats

1 (4.25 ounce) tube orange or red decorating frosting

1 (11-1/2 ounce package) fudge-striped shortbread cookies (32 count)

1/2 (13-ounce) package milk chocolate kisses, unwrapped (32)

Pipe a small mound of frosting on the center of each chocolate covered cookie bottom, press a chocolate kiss on frosting. Pipe a frosting band and bow around the base of each kiss. Voila, 32 cookies sure to please even the grouchiest person in your family.

Spooky Ghosts (pictured above)

9 (2-ounce) vanilla candy coating squares, divided

1 (1-pound) package peanut butter sandwich cookies (Nutter Butters)

1 (4.25) tube black or brown decorating frosting

Microwave 6 candy coating squares in a microwave-safe bowl at high 1 – 2 minutes or until melted, stirring once. Dip cookies in candy coating, allowing excess to drip. Place on wax paper and let stand until firm. Place remaining 3 vanilla coating squares in bowl. Microwave at high for 1 minute, stirring once. Dip cookies again in candy coating, allowing excess to drip. Place again on wax paper and let stand until firm. Pipe frosting eyes and mouth on each cookies to resemble a ghost. Yield: 32 cookies.

If anyone else out there has some secret super easy treats, please send them along. But please, no ‘RIP” cupcakes or cookies. Those things make my skin crawl.
