As long as I can remember I’ve realized that my dining room was occupying way too much prime real estate in my home. We use it maybe five times a year – Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and my boy’s birthdays.
The rest of the year it is a hallway to somewhere else. I’ve been dreaming of relocating that dining room and creating a new space for more than three or four people to enjoy.
Today, Braddock and Justin gave me my dream. I’m so in love with this space – of course, they’re talking about putting a 65 inch flat-paneled television over my mantle. (Over my dead body.)
Thanksgiving has never been quite so wonderful – probably because this is the first one in six years that my son, William, has been able to attend. He brought rabbit and crawfish tails, and we tried to act sophisticated.
Braddock, fried a turkey and it was delicious.
Always the inventor, Braddock developed a pulley using his ladder and a rope to deep fry the best turkey we’ve ever had.
My priest, Father John, even developed a relationship with Rebel Dawg. (Rebel is now giving the sign of the cross before he goes to bed.)
Can’t wait to see the new room in person! It looks great!
Where did you put the dining table?
See you in a couple of weeks!

Emily, your “new” room looks so inviting! I did that years ago and never looked back except for the damage all that moving did to my knees. We had a 26 foot living/dining area and I had the chandelier moved to the center of the room, put the dining room table and 6 of the chairs under it. Then moved the long couch to one end of the room with Oriental cabinets on either side. Put the matching love seat at the other end with an Oriental corner cabinet on one side and a 4 panel Oriental screen on the other side. Moved several Oriental china cabinets, the other 2 dining chairs and 2 Oriental coffee tables along the long walls and I just love it. Plenty of dining space and seating areas. Use it much more often. Getting my big Christmas tree put up in there this morning. Yea!!! Love Christmas.

I had to do the same thing – pushed a sofa off to the side – been shoving furniture for three days. I’ve GOT to get me some of those thingies I saw on tv where you can lift and move a car!
Looks comfy! I can see us now!
Emily, what did you do with the table??? I’m not going to make it there before Christmas, but after… I’ll be there to check out the new room! Good for you and Braddock!
It’s now in what was once the front parlor, Yvonne. Worked out nicely. I thought you were coming next week. Did that trip fall through?
