So he didn’t sound like Julie Andrews but his tune was as big a hit.
My special friend Margaret Ann celebrated her 50 something birthday tonight (fifty-fifteen to be exact), and we escorted her into senior citizenship in high style. Our friend Bill Roberts toasted her with a special song he had arranged to the tune of the Sound of Music hit “These are a Few of My Favorite Things.” It went something like this….
Deluded Diva Shirley Dawkins sang along
Maalox and nose drop and needles for knitting. Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings. Bundles of magazines tied up in string. There are a few of my favorite things. Cadillacs, cataracts, hearing aids, glasses. Polident, Fixodent, false teeth in glasses. Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings. These are a few of my favorite things. When the pipes leak, when the bones creak, when the knees go bad. I simply remember my favorite things and than I don’t feel so bad. Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions. No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions. Bathrobes and heat pads and hot meals they bring. These are a few of my favorite things. Back pains, confused brains, and no fear of sinning, thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinning. And we don’t mention our short shrunken frames. When we remember our favorite things. When the joints ache. When the hips break. When the eyes grow dim. Then I remember the great life I’ve had. And then I don’t feel so Bad. And the crowd said “AMEN.” Herfe’s to you sweetie…
I think Margaret Ann has had her eyebrow studded with a diamond. Kate thinks so too.
Here’s to ya, Dooeymama.
