Here is a program note for my old gang from West Point High School and anyone else looking for a great outing for Halloween night.
The band formally known as The Torquays, will come together one last time to entertain us the way they did back in 1965. Everyone is invited. Band members insist this will be their swan song, but we hope not.
The giant party will get underway at 6 p.m. at Waverly Waters on Old Waverly Road in West Point. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge, but donations will be welcome to help defray the cost of renting the facility.
It’s way out in the woods, so party-goers can kick up their heels till the morning light.
Today, the Torquays include the original band members Tinker Lautar, Eugene Bailey, and Scott Murrah. They will be joined by Gary Florreich, Bob & Susie Marshall, and Tom Seagrest. This is one party you don’t want to miss.
The group came back together several years ago to play for my class reunion. They have been getting together periodically for jam sessions and other events in the Golden Triangle ever since. But since Tinker lives in Memphis and Gary is in New Orleans, it’s not always easy to coordinate their schedules.
Everyone is encouraged to come in costume and BYOB if you plan to imbibe. A few of the classmates are bringing some Halloween treats for your enjoyment.
